Research has shown that without an investment in a training program, games such as those in the Mathematics Pentathlon can often be instructionally misused. Understanding strategy game rules through solitary reading is, for most people, a laborious task. For most, learning the Mathematics Pentathlon games requires some form of hands-on experience. To ensure effective implementation, teachers, coaches, parents and administrators need to receive instruction in the appropriate educational uses of these problem-solving games and activities. Trainings sponsored by the Pentathlon Institute guide educators and parents to a richer understanding of the Mathematics Pentathlon program, thereby enabling them to pass this knowledge on to their students.

The Pentathlon Institute provides many opportunities for teachers, coaches, parents and administrators to receive instruction in the successful use of the Mathematics Pentathlon program. We offer Summer Institutes, Saturday Workshops, and customized training. The Pentathlon Institute also presents at numerous national and state conferences (eg. NCTM, NAGC, CAMT, etc). I've been at this task of education for forty-two years. I believe math holds children back more than any other subject. Most teachers are pretty good reading teachers; they need help with teaching math. This program works and makes the teachers artists. I encourage all educators to learn more about the wonderful Pentathlon games. I have had students tell me it changed their lives. I have witnessed this. I am a dedicated convert.

Mathematics Pentathlon - A variety of workshop, inservice, and event options are available for teachers, parents, and administrators to optimize the instructional use of the Mathematics Pentathlon Program. To achieve this, all concepts and algorithmic procedures are organized and taught so that students connect symbols with related physical and pictorial models. In addition, the instructional process stresses the relationship between and among mathematical concepts and operations.
